The famous wild west showman Buffalo Bill Cody, was born in a long gone log cabin in what is currently Le Claire Iowa. It would have been just north of Le Claire's estate at the time of Bill's birth. He and his family would soon move to a larger house not too far way. That one is still standing. There Bill would spend his early childhood. He did not however grow to manhood on Iowa's river shores. A death in the family made that so.
On September 11th, in the year 1853, Samuel I. Cody was killed in an horse-riding accident. He was the twelve year old big brother of Bill Cody. Not long after this death the Cody family left Iowa. It has been said Bill's Mother Mary could not remain in Iowa due to the grief she felt. The memory of her dead child was just too much to bear. Even over 150 years ago a Mother's tears hold the same pain as a Mother's tears today. The past is not so alien. Back then it was horse instead of a gas powered vehicle, but the human experience of the heart unites through history.
